What Do You Think About Vonage?

  1. Vance Says:

There are many choices for VoIP service, don’t settle for the worst by using Vonage. See comparison
sties such as http://www.voipreview.org/service.all2.aspx?serviceType=1 http://www.e-wisdom.com/long_distance/voip.html?r=25 etc.

    Here is my experience:

    1. Poor quality. During the first 3 weeks, I had problems that couldn’t dial out when I needed to make calls. You hear a dial tone, but after entering the number the line goes silent. At the same time, people called my number heard a recorded message “the number you dial is no longer in service, please hang up…” I contacted their tech support. They told me that my 2-line phone is not compatible with their service and wanted me to replace my phone first before further support. Does this sound logically to you?

    2. Vonage bills the service charge starting on the date you sign up an account, not the date their service is available. It takes a week or more for their equipment (telephone adapter) to arrive and for you to install it properly. During this time, you pay them for no services.

    3. The 30-day money-back guarantee starts on the date your account is established, not the date you start using their services. Vonage even listed a phone sex service number on their policy website when I tried to contact them to cancel the service. I got burned by this and they charged me $119.98 for early termination plus one month of service that I didn’t use.

    4. I made a formal complaint and billing dispute by writing them a letter. It took them over 7 weeks to respond my complaint. Hopefully you won’t come to this. But is this the kind of customer service you want for your phone service?

I had years of good experience with AT&T CallVantage before switched to Vonage (AT&T discontinued their residential VoIP service recently). Then I paid Vonage over hundred dollars and hours of my time on writing letters and on the phone for humiliation and no phone services. My mistake was blind by their commercial without doing research and comparison. I hope that you can learn from my experience and shop for a better VoIP service provider for your need.

  2. Ardian Says:

Their advertising stated “No Equipment cost”. When you try to cancel the service, they said there is $79.99 equipment’s recovery fee for the equipment which was supposed to be provided at no cost to begin with. I told them, recover mean to recuperation. Therefore, if they provide me their mailing address, I will return the equipment which will invalidate their recovery fees. They refuse to allow me to return the equipment and insisting in charging me the recovery fee instead.
When I enrolled, I was told that this was supposed to be a month to month service with no contract. However, when I try to discontinue the service, they said this was a 2 year agreement. When I argued back and told them that it was a month to month agreement, they changed the story. The story is now, my service was based on a month to month agreement, however, if I discontinue my service before the 2 year period, I will be charged disconnection fee plus equipment recovery fees for the equipment that was advertised as “Provided at NO COST” to consumers.
Bottom line is, they falsely tricking consumers into a 2 years contract and charging consumer a hidden equipment fees.
This clearly is a false advertising practice and considered as a scam to get money out of consumer. BEWARE! And do yourself a favor, DO NOT SIGN UP WITH VONAGE! You WILL be sorry!
